Our Design Philosophy

Designing a landscape is a way of seeing and thinking about a place. Tangible aspects like light, water, topography, plant and animal communities all come together into a sense more elusive; the unique feeling of a place. There is a reason why we create secret gardens, fairy gardens, vegetable gardens, and pollinator gardens. It is the same reason that we hold certain trails, creeks, and woods near to our hearts. These places allow us to experience a sense of wonder, whimsy, solitude, accomplishment, life, and beauty that is unfortunately lacking in a world of lawns and parking lots. Don’t let that get you down; anywhere can become uniquely grounded with proper time and intention. It is our intention to recognize the seasons, soils, animals, and weather that work together to make each place authentically itself. Native plants respond to these patterns of place, adapting to fit in, and given time change the landscape with their presence.
